On this 25th anniversary of the L.A. Uprising, to commemorate and reflect on the pivotal event, we sat down with SCOPE members, Joaquin Meneses and Carolyn Riley, and asked them to share their personal experience of the Uprising. Joaquin was a recent immigrant from Mexico living in Koreatown in ‘92 and remembers both the community tensions and unity he felt at the time. Carolyn, who was a young woman when the 1965 Watts Rebellion took place, saw history repeat itself twenty-seven years later during in the L.A. Uprising. She reflects on the events that took place both in ‘65 and ‘92 and shares her vision of what it will take to create real change for South L.A. residents. You can watch their interviews below.
