While having his feet firmly planted in the present, Oscar Lopez also has his sights in the future. A SCOPE member since 2005, Oscar has participated and volunteered in everything from phone banking, door knocking, to attending rallies. It is that very same passion and commitment to his community that have also lead Oscar to becoming an active Board Member at SCOPE, but you wouldn’t know that from meeting him.
As a bus driver for Metro Los Angeles, he meets hundreds of people every day. And as a bus driver, he shoulders the responsibility of getting individuals to their destination safely and on time. It’s not an easy job, but it is one he prides himself on.
While he can’t be as active as he’d like because of his job, Oscar never fails to get the word out when it comes to important events taking place in the community. He values the work SCOPE does with community members because he wants to be sure that those in his community have access to resources to make better informed decisions when it comes to elections, voting for politicians, or just knowing what’s happening in the neighborhood and city.
He says that the decisions we make today will have a far greater impact in the long run, so it is critical that community members be as knowledgeable as possible. Looking ahead to the future, while still being present in the today is how positive change is going to happen in our communities.
Teniendo los pies firmemente plantados en el presente, Oscar López también tiene su vista en el futuro. Un miembro de SCOPE desde el 2005, Oscar ha participado y voluntario en todo, desde la banca telefónica, tocar puertas, y participar en mítines. Es esa misma pasión y compromiso con su comunidad que se transmite en el trabajo que hace en SCOPE como miembro del consejo, pero uno no sabe eso no mas mirándolo al el.
Como conductor de autobús de Metro de Los Angeles, se encuentra con cientos de personas cada día. Y como conductor de autobus, él recae la responsabilidad de llevar pasajeros a su destino a tiempo y seguros. No es un trabajo fácil, pero es uno que se siente orgulloso tener.
Mientras que no puede ser tan activo como le gustaría por su trabajo, Oscar nunca deja de correr la voz cuando se trata de eventos importantes que se desarrollan en la comunidad. Él valora el trabajo que hace SCOPE con los miembros de la comunidad porque quiere estar seguro que los de su comunidad tengan acceso a los recursos para tomar decisiones mejor informadas cuando se trata de elecciones, votar por los políticos, o el hecho de saber lo que está pasando en el barrio y la ciudad. Mirando hacia el futuro, sin dejar de estar presente en el día de hoy es como el cambio positivo va a suceder en nuestras comunidades.
Él dice que las decisiones que tomemos hoy, tendrán un impacto mucho mayor en el largo plazo y por lo que es fundamental que los miembros de la comunidad sean lo más informado posible.
