It’s with a heavy heart to share that long time SCOPE family member Chris Nixon suffered a severe heart attack and passed away. This sudden loss is one we are all still coming to terms with. Chris was a passionate advocate for social justice and leader at SCOPE and in the South LA community. Growing up in South LA, he saw the violence and institutional inequalities that have afflicted our communities over the years.
Seeing that growing up, Chris wanted more for his family and the community. Chris became a member of SCOPE over five years ago. He was a member of our leadership team, our street action team, and a critical voice in our campaign to win career path jobs, on the job training, and increase energy efficiency at the LA Department of Water and Power. Chris was always a supportive, respectful and caring friend to so many of our members and staff. We will miss him dearly.
We are still reeling from the sudden loss of an amazing individual and we come to you for support in this trying time. We are fundraising to help his family cover the funeral expenses. Whatever amount you can donate will help tremendously.
With warmest regards & blessings,
Gloria Walton
