Organizing
The Organizing training series covers key information for developing a community organizing program. Participants are introduced to topics like the history of community organizing in the US, key definitions, and an analysis of different models for community organizing. These trainings are essential in providing a solid foundation for effective outreach, recruitment, and mobilization of target constituencies.
Power Analysis
The Power Analysis training series covers a basic understanding of power and the ways in which unequal power relationships are related to the problems faced communities. Participants learn how to use the Power Analysis tool to develop plans for building a community’s power base and/or to develop an effective strategy for an issue campaign. These trainings are essential in helping groups identify and understand key players, issues, constituencies, and opposing agendas that affect our community.
Civic Participation
The Civic Participation training series provides a basic understanding of what it takes to develop an electoral program. Participants learn about key topics like the pro’s & con’s of electoral work, basic legal parameters to doing the work, integrating voter outreach with community organizing, developing long-term and short-term electoral strategy and the nuts and bolts of setting up an electoral operation. Using tools developed from SCOPE’s work in Los Angeles, participants leave these sessions with a plan to engaging in the electoral arena.
Research
The Research training series introduces the basics of ArcView to create maps and to analyze demographic information to increase the effectiveness of community organizing and campaign efforts. Participants get a hands-on experience using GIS as a tool to analyze their region and base constituency.
Staff Development & Coordination
The Staff Development and Coordination training series will provide an opportunity to evaluate your organization’s current planning and time management habits and practices. Participants are introduced to principles of an effective work and time management system.
Technical Assistance
SCOPE currently offers technical assistance in key areas of policy campaign development and organizing strategies. Using planning, tracking and facilitation tools developed by SCOPE, we will work together to tailor a curriculum that will help your organization or coalition develop a plan that includes a clear mission statement and vision statement, 3-5 year strategic goals, annual objectives, and a timeline—as well as how to align staff and leadership structures to implement the strategic plan.
